Fire extinguishers of powder type (see IS 15683) or carbon dioxide (see IS 2878) type or stored pressure Type A, B, C (see IS 15683) shall be provided in places where LPG cylinder installations are situated and shall be located near such installations.

Two buckets filled with sand and two with water shall be provided nearby.
It shall be ensured that the fire extinguishers and sand buckets are provided and installations are adequately protected from weather conditions.
Note: While the standard calls for the use of 10 kg Dry Powder Extinguishers, IS 15683: 2018 specifies standard capacities for Powder – BC/ABC/D Type fire extinguishers as 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, and 12 kg. This presents a discrepancy, as the market standard does not include a 10 kg size. Consequently, we may need to select extinguishers of 9 kg capacity or another available size. It will be essential to adjust the total number of extinguishers accordingly to ensure that the overall fire suppression capacity is not compromised. And also IS 2878 is withdrawn and looks like super seeded by IS 15683:2018.
